Patio Shades & Sun Screens

Take the porch back
from the sun.

Exterior shades for porches, patios and lanais: bungee tie-down patio shades we build ourselves in our Monroe, NC factory, and Insolroll cable-guided screens, manual or motorized. They cut the glare and the heat, keep the bugs out, give you some privacy, and roll up when you want the view back.

We do patio shades two ways, and they're different products, not the same shade at two prices. Bungee tie-down patio shades are the ones we build ourselves in our Monroe, NC workshop, using outdoor-rated screen fabric, cut and finished to fit your openings. They work with a metal chain and hook at the bottom with bungee tie-downs into your porch framework. Most of the patios we do every year are these. They're the honest answer for a back porch that needs shade and bug screening.

Insolroll cable-guided screens are the step up. The fabric is guided by side cables and works either with a deploy pole or a motor. They're for sun, privacy and everyday comfort on a covered porch. We walk every opening of your house and tell you what's right for it, and we're straight about what the budget supports.

Our Patio Shades

Built in our own shop, or cable-guided. We look at the porch and tell you which fits.

We don't sell one product and bend every porch to fit. We pick per opening based on sun, privacy, budget, and how often you'll use it.

Bungee Tie-Down Patio Shades

The one we build ourselves. Custom-sized in the same Monroe, NC workshop as our shutters, using outdoor-rated screen fabric cut and finished to fit your exact porch openings. Works with a metal chain (rolls up and down like an oversize porch roller shade) and hooks at the bottom with bungee tie-downs into your porch framework. The most common patio shade we install.

Cable-Guided Screens

Exterior screens guided by side cables. For sun, privacy and insect screening. Comes two ways: manual (pole-deploy from the ground) or motorized. The right call when the porch needs daily shade and privacy.

Patio Shade Questions

The ones we hear most at the showroom.

What's the difference between the two?
Two real products, not the same shade at two prices. Bungee tie-down patio shades are the ones we build ourselves, in our Monroe, NC workshop using outdoor-rated screen fabric, in the same factory where we build our plantation shutters. They work with a metal chain (rolls up and down) and hook at the bottom with bungee cords tied to the porch framework. Insolroll cable-guided screens are guided by side cables and work either with a deploy pole or a motor. They are the right call for daily sun, privacy, and bug screening on a covered porch.
Do you build them yourselves?
The bungee tie-down patio shades, yes, in our Monroe, NC workshop. The cable-guided screens are made by Insolroll, and we are an authorized dealer.
What's the lead time?
Typical lead time is 6 to 8 weeks for motorized screens, because the motors are matched to each opening. Manual shades are faster.
Can patio shades be controlled from my phone?
Yes. Our motorized screens run on Somfy and PowerView platforms. Both work with iOS and Android apps, and integrate with Amazon Alexa, Google Home, and Control4.
Will patio shades block the view?
When they're up, you see nothing. The shade rolls up under the soffit or eave. When they're down, the open-weave fabrics let you see out at about the level of a window screen, but block most direct sun.
